Invisible Join

The invisible join is a great way to finish a project to create a super smooth (invisible, perhaps?) seam for a work in the round. You can use either a yarn needle or a crochet hook in a smaller size than you’ve been using for your work.

When you’re ready to join:

  1. Trim the working yarn and pull the yarn all the way through the stitch so the tail is free.
  2. Insert your hook through the stitch you want to join to, from the back to the front.
  3. Pull the yarn tail through.
  4. Turn to the back of the work.
  5. Insert your hook from the bottom to the top through the horizontal strands of yarn along the back of the stitch. The number of horizontal loops you go through will be based on the stitch you are using. As a rule of thumb, go through however many loops you pulled through on the last step of the stitch. Since I was using double crochet, the last step required me to pull through two loops. If I were using single crochet, it would be one loop, if I were using half double crochet, it would be three loops.
  6. Pull the yarn tail down through the loops on the back of the stitch.
  7. Weave in the ends, and you’re done!

Note, for this tutorial I used two different colors of yarn to make it easier to see what I was doing, but this technique works best when the yarn is the same color at the beginning and the end of the round.
