A few weeks ago a friend of mine hosted a baby shower for EIGHT pregnant ladies from my church group who are all due from November to January. It was very cute – each invitee had a name printed on the invite so they only had to bring a gift for one person. Since I was one of the pregnant ladies, I decided to do a small gift for each of the others. I made them each an octopus from the ocean toy trio pattern, as well as a newborn or 3 month size baby hat (I also tossed in a pair of burp cloths and a headband for the lady whose name was on my invitation, which is why they’re in the picture).
I happened to have one of my boxes of yarn out one day and my daughter kept trying to get me to make her something. She finally settled on a “cupcake hat”. Of course I’d never made a cupcake hat before but I stepped up to the challenge.
Today I mailed off this baby blanket to my … step-niece-in-law? Anyway, she just had a baby boy last month so I sent her this beauty. It uses the hairpin lace technique I demonstrated a little while ago. Now you can see a finished product!
To make this pattern, you will need 3 skeins of Caron Simply Soft in Ocean, a size H hook, and a hairpin lace loom.

I hole-punch the corners and put them on a binder ring, then I crochet one of these lovely crayon holders and attach it to the ring. Continue reading
